Set just off Florida State Road A1A, this historic stretch of Hobe Sound unfolds as a compact, walkable corridor of local shops, restaurants, and offices. For years, however, a vacant corner lot interrupted the rhythm of the street—its absence felt as both a visual break and a pause in the otherwise continuous fabric of the area.
The new Oblivious Holdings development reclaims this site with a measured, context-driven approach that bridges past and present. Referencing the proportions and presence of the original structure that once occupied the parcel, the design traces the natural curve of the corner, reestablishing a strong street edge with a two-story mass that meets the property line. A breeze block facade introduces a distinctly Old Florida character, filtering light and air while giving the building a contemporary expression. The result is familiar in scale yet modern in execution, allowing the building to settle into its surroundings without mimicry.
Above, a third level is carefully set back to preserve the pedestrian scale and maintain continuity along the street. By keeping the primary two-story frontage consistent with neighboring buildings, the design reinforces the existing streetscape while allowing additional program to be accommodated above. The project ultimately reads as a quiet but deliberate act of infill—one that repairs the streetscape while contributing to the ongoing evolution of the district.
