The hotel should feel less like a resort imposed upon the Umbrian landscape than a small settlement that has accumulated there over time.
Thirty rooms are distributed among five distinct residential hamlets, with a sixth, more civic hamlet containing the shared life of the hotel. Each cluster has its own identity, scale and moment of arrival, allowing guests to inhabit a place rather than merely occupy a room.
The landscape—not the courtyard—is the primary ordering force. Buildings step and turn along the ridge, following its contours while maintaining a singular orientation toward the dominant view. The architecture should never compete with the hill; it should clarify the experience of it.

Privacy governs the planning. Rooms are approached through compressed, protected passages and open outward toward long views. Guests should rarely look directly into another room or terrace. Circulation is episodic: walls, stairs, courts and framed openings gradually reveal the landscape.
The architecture has two complementary faces:

Toward the courtyards, it is thick, inward-looking and protective—stone walls, arches and seemingly random punched openings.
Toward the landscape, it becomes open and expansive—deeply recessed glass, folded or zigzag glazing and broad terraces directed toward the horizon.

The stone gives the project permanence and connection to Umbria; the glass prevents that permanence from becoming nostalgic. Heavy masonry and precisely cut openings are balanced by thin, contemporary insertions. Towers, stairs and arches establish hierarchy, while olive trees, water and shaded courts soften the composition.
The project should feel ancient in its instincts but unmistakably contemporary in its execution: not a reconstruction of an Umbrian village, but a modern settlement shaped by the same forces—topography, climate, privacy, community and view.
