We designed this building in order to take advantage of a unique setting on a barrier Island on the East Coast of southern Florida. The site itself is surrounded by preserved land, which provided the design with a buffer between it and the surrounding structures to north and south. This feature allowed us to incorporate triangular, wedge-shaped lines that would have been lost within a more traditional, crowded coastal site plan.
Each wedge-shaped duplex provides its occupants with unobstructed views of the open Ocean to the east, and over and beyond the Inland Waterway to the west. Every room in each of the 24 units has a water view, with the tip of each wedge providing living and dining spaces with soaring 24’ ceilings, and dramatic folding walls that pivot so that the occupants can control the amount of light that enters the living spaces according to the angle of the Sun at any given point in time.
